SECURITY SYSTEMS |
|
The basic elements of a standard Home Security System includes: |
CONTROL PANEL: This is the location where the wiring terminates, the backup battery is located, and where it is connected to the telephone lines.
KEYPAD: This is where the system is armed and disarmed. Additional keypads can be installed. For example, a keypad can be installed in the Master Bedroom by the bed. If the alarm sounds in the middle of the night, the keypad display could indicate which door, window, motion or etc. caused the alarm.

SIREN: A loud siren sounds when there’s been a break-in and it also lets an intruder know they have been detected.
MOTION DETECTOR: Passive infrared, microwave, or photoelectric detectors sense changes in a room caused by human’s presence. Special motion detectors are available for people who have pets.

GLASS BREAK DETECTORS: Recognize the impact and sound of glass breaking and will sound the alarm if armed.

DOOR AND WINDOW CONTACTS: Magnetic contacts form a circuit between a door and door frame or a window and a sill. When the window or door is opened the circuit is broken and will sound the alarm if armed.
ALARM SCREENS: Special screens for windows that have a special wire woven in the mesh that will sound an alarm when cut or removed if armed.
PANIC BUTTONS: Can be hand-held or strategically placed. Just pressing the button will send a message to the central monitoring station for help. It can be audible or silent.

SMOKE DETECTORS: Required by many building codes. They can be wired to the Security Alarm Panel. If the smoke detectors go into alarm, the security panel will notify the central monitoring station who will dispatch the fire department.
CENTRAL MONITORING SYSTEM: In the event of an alarm, the control panel sends a message over a telephone line to the central monitoring station, which is UL listed and manned 24/7. After attempting to contact the residence and one other telephone #, and if they did not receive the proper password or did not receive an answer the police, fire, or medics will be dispatched.
CELLULAR/LONG RANGE RADIO: Used to back up the telephone lines. If the telephone lines do not work this device can be used to contact the central monitoring station.
